Ride Hadeland and Randsfjorden
This route combines everything from enjoyable driving roads to cultural attractions and excellent swimming spots. It can easily be completed in a single day, although we recommend spending the night along the way—for example at the historic Thorbjørnrud Hotel in Jevnaker.
The drive to Jevnaker is worthwhile in itself, with opportunities to visit Kistefos Museum, Hadeland Glassworks, or relax at the town's pleasant beach. If you're looking for an even more rewarding drive, we recommend continuing with a loop around Randsfjorden, north of Jevnaker. The western shore of the lake offers beautiful winding roads, inviting swimming spots, and elegant manor houses dating back to the prosperous days of Kistefos. If you'd prefer a shorter route, you can cross the lake by ferry roughly halfway through the drive.
The complete route involves approximately five to six hours of driving, although it can easily be shortened if desired.
Leave Oslo by following National Road 4 (RV4) through Nittedal, Hakadal, and Roa. From Roa, head west on the E16 towards Jevnaker. This section is around 65 kilometres and typically takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes.
For an even more scenic experience, take the smaller local roads that run mainly east of RV4 from Rotnes all the way to Roa. It adds a little extra driving time—but plenty of extra enjoyment.
From Jevnaker, continue north along the western side of Randsfjorden towards Bjoneroa and Dokka. This stretch is approximately 86 kilometres, and you should allow at least an hour and a half to enjoy it properly.
For the return journey to Jevnaker, follow the main road along the eastern shore of the lake. You can either stay close to the waterfront via Sløvika before returning to Jevnaker, or head directly back towards Oslo via RV4 from Brandbu.
The final leg back to Oslo can either follow RV4, retracing your outward journey, or the E16 if you'd like to pass Lake Tyrifjorden and perhaps stop at the historic Sundvolden Hotel along the way.
